BAY ROBERTS, N.L. — A 17-year-old who just got his driver’s licence won’t be going out for a ride again any time soon after police pulled him over for allegedly street racing.

According to a news release, an officer with the Bay Roberts RCMP detachment witnessed two vehicles travelling very fast along Route 70 in the community last Friday night, April 5. The posted speed limit in the area was 50 kilometres per hour.

The officer managed to pull over one of the vehicles and learned the male driver had only recently obtained his licence. The vehicle was impounded and the youth’s licence was suspended. He was released from the scene to his parents. Bay Roberts RCMP is still investigating the matter.
