HARBOUR GRACE, N.L. — A warehouse in the Riverhead area of Harbour Grace was destroyed by fire Wednesday night.
Police got a call about at about 11 p.m. and were quickly at the scene minutes later.
Firefighters from the Harbour Grace and Carbonear stations were also quick to arrive, but the building — which was also said to have housed office space — was fully engulfed in flames and was a total loss.
The Spaniards Bay Fire Department also responded to the fire with two trucks and stayed on scene until 5 a.m.
Weather conditions at the time of the fire were poor, with high winds, according to Harbour Grace RCMP.
Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire.
A fire examiner with fire and emergency services was expected to arrive on the scene Thursday.
The building was a popular destination for teenagers during the 1980s, when teen dances were held there.
“Wow. Loved going there,” Marie Bradbury said on a Facebook post about the fire.
“Never missed many dances there or hangouts on the track,” Denise Bailey Anstey added. “What great memories.”
Tracey Holloway added, “A lot of awesome memories from up to The Warehouse. Great times — some of the best of my life. Very sad indeed.”
