ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The entire province of Newfoundland and Labrador moved to Alert Level 2 midnight Friday, but you may want to look at it as Level 2.1.
Because there are some differences.
“This time around, we will all need to do things a little differently,” Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald said earlier this week “I think it’s safe to say we were all startled by this outbreak and how rapidly it escalated and we don’t want to be taken by surprise again.”
The main changes: avoid informal gatherings with people outside your household bubble, and wear your mask at all times in public spaces.
Keep masks on at church, in cinemas and even bars and restaurants when not eating or drinking.
Pick 20 close, consistent contacts outside your household and stick with them.
“The most important thing everyone can do right now is keep your contacts low,” Fitzgerald said. “For this reason, informal gatherings are not really recommended at this time.”
Sports practices and training can resume, but organizations must submit a return-to-play plan before regional or provincial competitions can take place.
Fitzgerald said she may loosen the rules a little further in Level 2 if all goes well over the next couple of weeks.
