Whitbourne man charged in home invasion undergoes medical assessment

HARBOUR GRACE, NL — One of two men arrested for their alleged involvedment in a home invasion remains in custody as of Thursday.

Jarrod Roberts, 28, of Whitbourne, was charged with robbery, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, uttering threats and breach of recognizance following an RCMP investigation of a New Harbour home invasion that took place Wednesday, Feb. 7.

On Wednesday afternoon, Roberts was sent to the Waterford Hospital for further assessment. He is due back in court on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Jamie Alfred Michael Phillips, 27, of St. John’s was the first suspect charged in connection to the home invasion. Phillips was charged with assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, uttering threats to cause death, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlawfully committing robbery and unlawfully being in a dwelling. Following his bail hearing on Monday, Feb 12, Phillips was released with conditions and is set to appear back in court on Wednesday, Mar. 14.
