ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A 58-year-old man charged last month after a woman was run over by a pickup in Paradise made his first provincial court appearance Friday morning.

Tony Ryan, 58, is charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and refusing the breathalyzer in connection with a Nov. 11 incident on Grandview Avenue that left a woman seriously injured and bleeding in the street.

Sources told The Telegram a man and woman had been arguing outside their home, shouting at each other, shortly before the woman was struck by the truck. Paramedics treated her at the scene before taking her to hospital in an ambulance.

RNC officers arrested Ryan on site, later charging him. He was released from custody to await Friday's court date, with conditions to follow.

Ryan was formally read his charges Monday. He'll make his next court appearance Jan. 30.
