Following a response to a 911 call at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, RCMP arrested a 33-year-old man from the Bay St. George area and charged him with attempted murder.
According to a prepared release, when police arrived at the scene, the suspect had fled the area. He was later taken into custody around Montana Drive in Stephenville, with the assistance of the RCMP’s Police Dog Service.
A woman was treated at hospital and later released.
Other charges against the suspect include overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence, assault, break and enter, mischief, theft, and uttering threats.
He appeared in Stephenville Provincial Court Monday and is expected back in court today.
The man cannot be named as the judge has placed a publication ban on his identity.
Police advise the incident is not believed to be random, as the man arrested and the victim are known to each other.
An investigation is ongoing.
