The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) announced Thursday it has been certified by the province’s Labour Relations Board as the bargaining agent for workers with Collin’s Ambulance Service Ltd.
Collin’s Ambulance services the Burin Peninsula and is a contracted service provider with Eastern Health.
In a news release NAPE says it has also successfully negotiated an agreement with the employer which was accepted unanimously by members. All this over the course of a just a few months.
There are currently 12 employees at Collin’s.
“We are happy to welcome workers at Collin’s Ambulance to our NAPE family,” NAPE President Jerry Earle said. “Once workers voted to join our union, our team immediately went to work to negotiate a very good first collective agreement for this group.
“Our union continues to grow in the private sector. Workers see our union as a champion for their rights, for better pay and benefits, for improved health and safety standards, and for better overall working conditions. We expect this trend to continue into the months ahead.”
