CORNER BROOK, NL — John Davis is the new general manager of the Qalipu Development Corporation (QDC).

The Qalipu First Nation announced the hiring in a news release on Monday, Dec. 11.

Davis, who is from Corner Brook and is of Mi’kmaq heritage, will be responsible for the portfolio of businesses that make up the QDC, among them the Mi’kmaq Commercial Fisheries, Qalipu Management Services, commercial properties, and Eastern Door Logistics.

He will also manage new business development, partnerships and activities focused on the economic future of the Band.

Davis was the director of regional operations with the provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation for 13 years. He also worked as a senior regional planner with the Enterprise Newfoundland and Labrador Corporation for six years and served as director of the Marble Mountain Development Corporation from 1991-2017

“The QDC is a very exciting organization,” Davis said. “It is already engaged in numerous business development activities which will benefit the Qalipu membership tremendously. I am extremely pleased to be a part of this team.”

Davis started in the position on Dec. 4.
