ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corp. (NLHC) hasn’t been able to find the occupant of a homeless camp on Nalcor Energy land in the west end of St. John’s.

Since initially being advised of the matter on Friday, NLHC staff has checked on the site multiple times, and as recently as Tuesday morning, The Telegram was told by a spokeswoman.

There isn’t any indication the individual has returned, and there isn’t any way to determine where the person may have relocated, Jenny Bowring said.

The camp, strewn with trash, including kitchen catchers full of human waste, is located in woods off Hamlyn Road and Captain Whelan Drive near Nalcor Energy’s headquarters.

Nalcor had referred the matter to the NLHC. The City of St. John’s is also aware of the situation, as is Natural Resources Minister Siobhan Coady.

Nalcor said last week it plans to clean up the site.
