Paul Boland of Mount Pearl celebrated his 50th birthday last Saturday and treated himself to a Set For Life lotto ticket, and won the top prize — $1,000 a week for life or a lump sum of $675,000.

Boland and his wife, Reta, opted to take the $675,000.

The couple has two teenage daughters, and their university education is “taken care of,”  they said.

Paul, an account manager with Gray Bar Canada, said he will purchase a new Harley Davidson motorcycle, while Reta, a facilities and operations manager with the Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union, said she wants to go somewhere “sunny and warm and no snow” for a family vacation this spring.

They picked up their winning presentation in Mount Pearl on Friday.
