The provincial government’s employment assistance services will soon be available at College of the North Atlantic (CNA) campuses around the province.
It’s part of a plan to develop the college’s campuses as local and regional economic generators and community hubs, Advanced Education, Skills and Labour Minister Al Hawkins indicated in a news release on Wednesday.
“The expansion also aligns with the vision and goals of the Workforce Innovation Centre which is focused on identifying ways to better help people prepare for, find, return to, or maintain sustainable employment,” Hawkins said.
Employment Assistance Services are available at the department’s employment centres and help EI eligible individuals with job searches, resume writing, labour market information, as well as career and employment needs assessments.
The increase in capacity in services is being funded through federal contributions under the Labour Market Development Agreement.
There will be no disruption for existing clients as employment services are expanded to the college campuses in the coming months.
Individuals who are currently receiving employment planning will continue to do so with the department, which will continue to be responsible for delivering employment services to income support clients and others who are non-EI eligible.

“Working with the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, we will develop a plan which will not only support individuals in their search for employment, but one that will see the delivery of these services strengthen our ability to connect to the labour needs of the province and the various industry sectors represented throughout.”
