There are currently two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador after a single confirmed case was reported on Saturday, a statement from the Department of Health and Community Services said.
The new confirmed case is a male between the ages of 40 and 49 in the Central Health region.
The individual is a resident of the province but recently travelled from Alberta to Newfoundland.
The man showed no signs of symptoms and has been self-isolating and following public health guidelines since returning.
Close contacts will be advised to quarantine and contact tracing has begun.
The statement also said another positive result was detected by staff and contractor screening protocols conducted by the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) mine in Labrador.
The Public Health and Microbiology Laboratory is currently testing that positive result to find out if it is another confirmed case of COVID-19.
That person is also self-isolating and following health guidelines, the statement said.
