Dyson is retiring this week after seven years with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) police services unit.

Police service dog (PSD) Dyson was partnered with (then Constable) Russ Moores in 2013.

Dyson is Moores’ second police service dog, preceded by his grandfather, PSD Rocky (serving from 2006-13). Dyson specialized in detecting explosives and has been a terrific resource for the organization aiding in police complaints involving potential threats to public safety, the RNC said in a news release.

Dyson has assisted the RNC in many emergency calls for service, including searches for missing and endangered people. Police service dogs and their handlers help responding officers at calls of armed robberies, break and entries, thefts, assaults and other criminal and public safety investigations.

Moores was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant and is assigned within the RNC’s operational patrol services division on the Northeast Avalon. Dyson will remain with the Moores family as a house pet.

The RNC thanked Dyson for his service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
