MARYSTOWN, N.L. – The RCMP stopped a man who was driving 60 kilometers an hour over the posted speed limit on the Burin Peninsula Highway on June 21.
As per new Highway Traffic Act regulations enacted on June 7, the vehicle was impounded and the man's driver’s licence was suspended for seven days, according to a RCMP release.
While police had the vehicle pulled over, another motorist was stopped for driving too fast.
Charges were laid under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act after the driver was found to have cannabis. Police seized the drug.
The RCMP is reminding the public that cannabis is not yet legal, and there will be many regulations in place when it does later this year.
