CORNER BROOK, N.L. — A western Newfoundland man accused of abducting his son at the beginning of January is still on remand at the West Coast Correctional Centre in Stephenville.

The man, who cannot be named due to a publication ban put in place to protect the child’s identity, appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook via video conference from the centre Jan. 28.

The man’s defence counsel indicated it has yet to receive disclosure on the five charges he’s facing. The Crown said it would be provided shortly.

The man is charged with parental child abduction, theft of a motor vehicle and three counts of failing to comply with the condition of a court order.

The alleged abduction was the subject of a nationwide Amber Alert.

The man and boy were located in Port aux Basques later that evening, following a report of a possible sighting.

The man is on a consent remand and can request a bail hearing at any time.

His next appearance was set for Feb. 11.
