GLOVERTOWN, N.L. — A Glovertown man is facing charges after fleeing from police on an ATV in Traytown earlier this week.

It actually took three attempts to stop the 26-year-old.

It all took place in the early hours of Thursday morning. Glovertown RCMP said around 1:20 a.m., an officer saw an ATV riding on the roadway on Main Street South in Glovertown with no operational back lights. When they attempted to stop the ATV, the rider sped up and fled into Traytown.

Minutes later, another officer observed the same ATV on Aspen Road in Traytown, now operating with no lights on at all, front or back. Another stop was attempted, but the ATV sped away a second time.

Ten minutes later, the ATV reappeared on Aspen Road, where police were able to stop him.

Police say the driver provided a roadside breath sample above the provincial limit.

He was arrested and faces two charges of flight from police, his licence was suspended and the ATV was impounded.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in May.
