BAIE VERTE, N.L. — A man from the Baie Verte area is facing a number of charges after allegedly trying to take down a moose from the driver's side window of his truck this past Friday night on Route 414 near La Scie.
Baie Verte RCMP subsequent investigation resulted in the 48-year-old man being arrested and charged for careless use of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm. The man’s firearms, possession and acquisition licence and moose were seized. The investigation is ongoing.
RCMP saus conservation officers with the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources are actively engaged in the investigation to determine potential violations of the Wild Life Act and Regulations.
The man was released from custody and is scheduled to attend court in Baie Verte on Nov. 19, 2019.
The RCMP is reminding hunters to review both the Provincial Wildlife Act and Regulations and Federal Firearms Act and Regulations for discharging, safe storage, handling and transportation of firearms and encourages the public to report individuals using firearms in their vehicles or on the roadways.
