STEPHENVILLE

Members of the Bay St. George RCMP arrested a man for impaired driving following a traffic stop on Queen Street in Stephenville at about 10 p.m. on Monday.

In a prepared release, police said the driver, a 73-year-old man from Stephenville, showed signs of impairment and had an open case of beer in the vehicle next to him.

Police said he failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired driving, then taken back to the RCMP detachment in Stephenville where he provided breath samples that showed blood-aclcohol levels more than twice the legal limit.

The man’s licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized and impounded.

He is scheduled to appear in court later.
