CARBONEAR, N.L. — She reckons it has been close to 40 years since she last donated blood, but Carol Horwood felt compelled to start again Tuesday in light of a special donor clinic held in memory of Steven Trickett.
The 35-year-old from Harbour Grace died earlier this year while competing in the Ottawa Marathon. Horwood said her son Jamie was among Steven's best friends and served as a pallbearer at his funeral.
Steven helped organize clinics in Ontario while living there. Canadian Blood Services held special clinics in his memory in Carbonear, St. John's, Calgary, Halifax and Ottawa on Tuesday, July 16.
Among those he left to mourn were a young daughter and a wife who is due to give birth to another child.
