CORNER BROOK, N.L. — The new long-term care building in Corner Brook is officially in the hands of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
On Feb. 14, the Western Regional Health Authority took possession of the property with primary construction for the project completed.
“The building for all intents and purposes is complete,” Premier Dwight Ball told The Western Star.
Premier Ball confirmed there were still some minor jobs to finish in the next couple weeks. Friday morning, access was still limited to the main floor.
As an example, the premier said a grill remains to be completed in the HVAC system.
“It’s no different with any other construction site, there are always deficiencies that will come,” said Premier Ball. “Today is really about completion.”
The new facility will include a 15-bed palliative care unit, 10-bed rehabilitation unit, 120 long-term care beds shared across four floors and eight 15-bed units.
Corner Brook Care Partnership is overseeing the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the facility.
The group’s contract covers a 30-year period.
