CORNER BROOK, N.L. — A Corner Brook woman who got in the way of an RNC officer attempting to catch a fleeing suspect was arrested early on the morning of Dec. 23.

The original incident took place in the Caribou Road area of Corner Brook on Dec. 2.

An officer patrolling the area at about 2:24 a.m. saw a man who was wanted under an arrest warrant. The officer arrested the man, but he escaped from custody and fled from the area. The officer followed and, while chasing the man, was obstructed by the woman, who allowed the man to escape. The man was later located and arrested under the warrant and also charged with resisting arrest and escaping lawful custody.

The woman evaded police and an obstruction investigation was started.

At 12:31 a.m. Wednesday, another officer on patrol on the west side of the city and who was aware of the ongoing investigation, located the 37-year-old woman. She was arrested without incident. She’s been charged with obstructing a police officer and assisting in an escape from lawful custody. She’s scheduled to appear in provincial court in February.
