Dark Elf on the Shelf sightings all over St. John’s

Project Kindness founder Hasan Hai is having a little Christmas fun for a good cause.

On Tibb’s Eve, the Dark Elf on the Shelf (aka Project Kindness founder Hasan Hai) watches over The Telegram’s assignment editor Mark Vaughan-Jackson (no word yet on what the elf plans to report back to Santa).

Calling himself “Dark Elf on the Shelf,” Hai — dressed in leggings and elf booties and hat — will come to your place of work today or tomorrow and sit on your shelf, counter, filing cabinet or some other visible place, just to remind your coworkers or customers that Santa is watching. In return, Hai is accepting donations of non-perishable food items or cash for the Community Food Sharing Association.

Project Kindness is a group of local volunteers dedicated to committing and encouraging random acts of kindness. They often take on charitable projects, which have included Christmas shoeboxes for local children in need and winter care kits for clients of Stella’s Circle and Choices for Youth.

Last weekend, they visited dozens of retail outlets in the St. John’s area, handing out goody bags to the employees with a note letting them know they were appreciated for their often-stressful job this time of year.
