DEER LAKE N.L. — It looks like Kevin Langdon and his family will be coming home to Deer Lake after all.

On Friday Langdon, who lives in Hanley, Sask., received word that the denial of his appeal on an application for exemption to Newfoundland and Labrador’s travel ban had been reversed.

Langdon had been planning the trip home — the first in seven years — for three years.

When the travel ban was put in place by the province he immediately applied for an exemption, only to be denied.

He appealed that and on Thursday was informed his appeal was also denied. The Office of the Chief Medical Officer for Health said his reason for travel doesn’t fall within current exemption criteria.

“I feel so much relief now."

Langdon sought legal advice after that and was considering suing the province over the travel ban.

A member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Langdon told Saltwire Network he felt discriminated against for living in Saskatechwan.

In an email Friday evening, Langdon said he had kept calling about the denial and that coverage of his story may have had an impact.

He’d also been accepted for a class action lawsuit that is already in progress.

“I’ll be putting the class action on hold for now and see how things turn out,” he said.

“I feel so much relief now. Fears I had of mechanical issues on route are even less of a worry now,” he said.

Langdon said he and his family are ready for the trip and will leave Hanley on July 6 to make the drive to Newfoundland.

“Just got the oil changed on the truck today. Camper is packed with everything we need. Kids are extremely excited.

“Just got to work these next three night shifts and away we go.”
