CORNER BROOK, N.L.

A 16-year-old boy from Deer Lake won’t be driving his off-road ATV motorcycle anytime soon after the vehicle was impounded by police in Corner Brook on the morning of Tuesday, June 30.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received a complaint of erratic driving involving a motorcycle at 12:50 a.m. The motorcycle was said to be speeding on the Lewin Parkway near Broadway with no lights illuminated and was last observed driving onto Broadway.

Within a short time, the motorcycle was observed in the University Drive/O’Connell Drive area and headed towards West Valley Road.

At 1:05 a.m. the suspect was seen driving down West Valley Road but failed to stop when a patrol unit activated its emergency lights. The driver fled the area, but a pursuit was not initiated.

Five minutes later, an unmarked police vehicle observed the motorcycle being driven east on the Lewin Parkway near Mill Road and then towards Hospital Hill.

A patrol vehicle then observed the suspect parked in the Murphy Square parking lot. Officers conducted surveillance of the area and approached the suspect on foot from behind area buildings. He was arrested without incident.

The teenager was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fleeing police, and breach of probation. He was also issued a number of summary offence tickets for all-terrain vehicle and highway traffic offences.

He was released to a parent and is scheduled to attend youth court in October.
