FLOWER'S COVE, N.L. — Flower’s Cove RCMP arrested a local teen for operating an ATV on the highway and fleeing police near Savage Cove on the Northern Peninsula.
On Oct 13, at approximately 10 p.m., the RCMP says it attempted to stop ATVs being operated recklessly on the highway near Savage Cove.
They fled the scene.
One of the ATVs was located a short time later along with the 13-year-old male driver and two female passengers.
The male was arrested and criminal charges are pending for flight from police and operating an ATV on the highway.
His parents face charges under the Motorized Snow Vehicle and ATV Act for allowing a person to operate an ATV while under the legal age.
RCMP have seized the ATV and it is impounded at the owner’s expense.
RCMP reminds the public operating an ATV on the highway is illegal, unless it is a specifically-designated area.
The minimum age limit for operating an adult-sized ATV (over 90 CC) is 16 years old.
