Former town clerk in Labrador gets jail time for theft

Holly Flowers was sentenced on July 16 to three months in jail for her part in stealing $72,000 from the coffers of the town of North West River in Labrador.

Flowers, a former clerk with the town, pleaded guilty in February to theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, and breach of public trust by a public officer.

Following her incarceration, Flowers will be on probation for 18 months. She was also ordered to pay $20,000 back to the town of North West River.

Timothy Blake, a former councillor, is also facing a charge of theft over $5,000 relating to the missing money. Blake is scheduled to return to court on July 22 on that charge and an unrelated charge of uttering threats.
