GLOVERTOWN, NL – He has four months left to reach his goal, and Deon Oram is showing no signs of slowing down.

The Glovertown man has raised more than $31,000 of his $50,000-goal to grant five Children’s Wish Foundation wishes.

He’s has taken on the challenge for his eight-year-old son Paul, who, being a past Children’s Wish Foundation recipient, wanted to grant five wishes to commemorate five years of being cancer free/in remission in mid-May.

Oram has been fundraising at Muskrat Falls where he works, holding an online auction (Facebook page Team Paul - Cancer Slayer Online Auction) and accepting donations. There have also been donations made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, of which Oram is a member, on behalf of Team Paul - Cancer Slayer.

Oram says support for the cause has been overwhelming, and he can’t thank the public and business community enough for its support.

“Time and time again, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have stepped forward to help a good cause,” he said, “It’s our way, and it’s prevailing again.”

With four months left until Paul’s next cat scan, Oram continues his fundraising quest. If all clear, he gets to ring the bell of hope to signify five years being cancer free.
“I knew we had a big undertaking, but Paul wanted to make five kids smile (by granting their wish),” said Oram, noting each wish costs approximately $10,000. “Right now, we’ve raised enough to have three kids laughing, but we’ve still got two more to go.”

He has another online auction planned for April, which will accept bids on donated items, and Oram and the Children’s Wish Foundation are still accepting donations.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to Team Paul’s cause can do so by contacting Oram at: [email protected] or 709-422-2429.
