DEER LAKE, N.L. — Graham Downey-Sutton’s name will be on the ballot for the province's New Democratic Party (NDP) in the Oct. 6 by-election in Humber-Gros Morne.
The party announced Downey-Sutton as its candidate in the district on Monday.
Downey-Sutton lives in Corner Brook and has family roots in Deer Lake. He is a developmental support worker and is currently completing a Bachelor of Social Work degree. He also holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the Western Regional School of Nursing.
The seat had been held by former Liberal premier Dwight Ball, who resigned on Sept. 7 to give new Premier Andrew Furey a district to run in.
In addition to Furey and Downey-Sutton, other declared candidates include Mike Goosney, Deer Lake’s deputy mayor, who will represent the Progressive Conservative Party, and NL Alliance Leader Graydon Pelley.
