STEPHENVILLE, N.L. — A 58-year-old man from Heatherton on the province's west coast is facing a number of charges following a traffic safety stop by Bay St. George RCMP last Friday night.
After officers stopped the vehicle with a burnt-out headlight, they suspected the driver to be impaired. After a failed roadside breathalyzer, a search of the vehicle turned up an unauthorized firearm, open alcohol and unsealed cannabis that was readily available to the driver.
Back at the detachment, the man provided additional breath samples that were above the legal limit.
The man was released from custody and faces a number of charges including impaired driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, as well as summary offence tickets for having open liquor and unsealed cannabis readily available in a vehicle. His license was suspended and his vehicle impounded.
He is scheduled to attend court on Dec. 2.
