You couldn’t hear a pin drop last Thursday afternoon as cancer patient 54-year-old Juanita Dinn of St. John’s spoke of her cancer ordeal at the launch of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation “In This Together” capital campaign at the newly expanded Centre’s facility adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre.
To kick off the campaign, ExxonMobil Canada, operators of the Hebron project, made a generous donation of $1.44 million from the Hebron Project Employers Association.
The campaign’s goal is $5 million to construct a new state-of-the-art chemotherapy unit on the top floor of the expanded facility to replace the aging current ground floor chemotherapy unit.
The province is also contributing $1.5 million to the campaign.
Dinn, 54, was diagnosed in 2008 with breast cancer and says she is now terminally ill. She is currently being treated for metastatic breast cancer. She said it is her wish to “waltz” with her son at his Waterford Valley High School high school grad night this school year when he graduates in the spring of 2019.
