The Kilmory Resort in Swift Current, Newfoundland is offering refuge to members of the community who may find themselves impacted by the storm system that is currently causing blizzard conditions across the Burin Peninsula.

A post of the business Facebook page reads, “This tractor will be my home for most of the next 24 hours. If you are in the Swift Current area of the Burin Peninsula Kilmory Resort is plowed out and open if you need a refuge from the Blizzard. If you're stuck in the blizzard tonight is on us.”

Owner Roger Jamieson said in the past they have seen people come into their office in severe weather conditions who have been travelling through the area, “over the years we’ve probably had a ton of people who drop into the office and say, oh well I’m going to try it and go up over what we call the mile hill-come back and say my car is off the road I came back with a tractor-trailer driver do you have anywhere to put me for the night…”

He added that now if people drop into the office during storm conditions the recommend, they stay for the night instead of attempting to go any further.

Jamieson told Saltwire Network that he has been in Swift Current for 28 years and it is one of the five worse storms he has seen.

“We wouldn’t want anyone to be stuck, or sleeping in their car,” he said.  “We like to look after people-if somebody comes up and hasn’t got the money to pay for a cabin we’ll look after them.”

While the resort is not equipped with a back-up generator Jamieson said that guest would not be left in the dark,

“We have candles,” he said with a laugh. “We have candles in every cottage-we have flashlights in every cottage.”
