A pair of fisheries investigations have led to recent convictions.

In provincial court in Gander on Jan. 21, one individual was convicted of netting Atlantic salmon, as well as the illegal possession of Atlantic salmon, resulting in a fine of $4,000. The individual is also prohibited from recreational fishing for one year.

On Oct. 21, 2019, a person received a $2,000 fine after being convicted of netting Atlantic Salmon.

Both convictions are related to an investigation that took place in July 2019 when fish and wildlife enforcement officers received information that illegal netting was happening near the community of Little Burnt Bay. After surveillance by officers, the individuals were apprehended.

The provincial government reminds people they can report any illegal activity by calling 1-877-820-0999 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
