ST. ANTHONY, N.L. — A Northern Peninsula man was charged with impaired operation of a boat after police in St. Anthony received a tip from the public on Tuesday.

The RCMP received the report of a suspected impaired driver operating a boat in Gunners Cove at 1 p.m. Police met the boat coming to shore and an officer spoke with the operator, who was the lone occupant of the vessel.

The officer suspected the man was impaired by alcohol. The man failed a breath test administered at the scene and was arrested. He was taken to the detachment in St. Anthony and provided breath samples that were above the legal limit.

The man’s drivers licence was suspended and he was released from custody. He’s scheduled to appear in provincial court in September.
