HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. — A contract has been awarded for the design of a new six-bed mental health unit at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The contract, awarded to Fougere Menchenton Architecture Incorporated, is valued at $426,000.

“Government is moving forward, at great pace, with a plan for improving mental health and addictions services in our province,” said Lake Melville MHA Perry Trimper in a press release. “These new beds in the mental health unit at the Labrador Health Centre represent another piece of that plan. There is much more we can accomplish, but as the name of our plan implies, this is another step towards providing timely and compassionate care to those struggling with mental health and addictions.”

According to the provincial government, a tender for construction will be issued later this year with the project expected to be completed in 2022.
