DEER LAKE, N.L. — A 47-year-old Ontario man driving 44 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit was arrested for impaired driving following a traffic stop on the west coast near Taylors Brook on Sunday.

The Oshawa man was stopped after an officer with Traffic Services West observed the vehicle he was driving travelling at a high rate of speed around 6 p.m. on Route 420.

A radar reading showed the man was driving 124 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

When the vehicle was stopped, the officer suspected the man was impaired. A roadside breath test was conducted and the man failed. He was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Deer Lake RCMP detachment.

He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook in December. His vehicle was seized and impounded.
