CHANNEL-PORT AUX BASQUES, N.L. — The RCMP in Port aux Basques has charged a man and a woman in connection with the alleged violent death of a cat in the town.
The cat, identified by a cat rescue group in the area as Mittens, was allegedly killed on Sept. 10.
Fifty-one-year-old Peter Rossiter of O’Regans has been charged with one count of injuring or endangering an animal and one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Thirty-eight-year-old Jody Anderson of Cape Ray has been charged with one count of injuring or endangering an animal and two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
The charges were laid today.
Both have been released from custody. They will appear in provincial court in Port aux Basques in December.
