On Saturday, Jan. 5 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Twillingate RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter at Farr's Foodland in the community of Summerford.
The suspect gained entry by smashing the front window and stole a large quantity of cigarettes.
A short time later the RCMP tracked the suspect in the freshly fallen snow to a nearby apartment. Forty-three-year-old Joseph Barnes was arrested and appeared before a judge where he was remanded in custody.
Barnes appeared in Gander Provincial Court the morning of Monday, Jan. 7 where he faced charges of break and enter and possession of property obtained by crime. He was released on a Judge’s Undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
