A 30-year-old man from Sheshatshiu has been arrested on gun related charges after an incident with an imitation firearm near the Labrador Inn in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The man who was arrested, Raphael Rich, was prohibited from possessing a firearm, according to an RCMP press release.

“Last night, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP received a report of a man wielding a firearm out behind the Labrador Inn,” said the press release. “The man, who was reportedly waiving the firearm around, departed on foot into a wooded area.”

“Police officers from Happy Valley-Goose Bay Detachment, along with Labrador District Police Dog Services, attended the area and searched on foot. Officers were equipped with shotguns and carbines in response to the information that was provided.”

The RCMP said Rich was wielding an “imitation firearm.” Rich is scheduled to attend court on July 12, facing charges of possessing an imitation of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and being in possession of a firearm while prohibited.
