SALISBURY, N.B. — An incident between students from two New Brunswick schools caused three institutions to be placed under “hold and secure” protocol for a portion of the morning Wednesday, May 15.
At around 10:30 a.m. JMA Armstrong High School/Salisbury Middle School and Riverview High School were placed under the security measures.
“Administrators immediately enacted Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) protocols… As always, student and staff safety remain our primary priority,” said Stephanie Patterson with Anglophone District East.
RCMP completed its investigation and the “hold and secure” was lifted at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, said Patterson.
“Hold and Secure may occur if there is an emergency in our school or community which is not an immediate threat. In this situation, all doors to the school are locked and regular classroom operations continue. During a Hold and Secure students are not permitted to leave the school and parents or are not allowed to pick students up for any reason.”
Hold and secure is not the same as a lockdown where there is “imminent danger within the school or immediately outside the school,” said the website.
Administration at Salisbury Middle said everyone in the school was safe as of 2 p.m.
