In a Facebook post around noon on Sunday, the Town of Come by Chance said, ”Roads are now open and residents should expect normal winter driving conditions.

Please be careful of individuals who may be walking. Snowbanks are high.”

The Town of Bonavista lifted its state of emergency on Saturday afternoon.

However, the town advised residents to refrain from unnecessary travel.

“Many roads have only a single lane. Please be patient as crews work to widen and clear snow at this time.”

During the height of the weekend storm, one of the highest wind gusts was recorded at Cape Bonavista. Wind speeds were clocked at 167 km/hour.

People in many towns along the Bonavista Peninsula were without power on the weekend.

Another 397 customers were without power in the communities of Plate Cove to Summerville and Tickle Cove. Nl Power said it hoped to have the power back on in that area later this afternoon,.

The residents of the Town of Trinity Bay North (which includes Catalina, Port Union and Melrose) also went without power during the storm. Warming centres at the Fire Department Station in Catalina was opened through the weekend.

Most of the power was restored to that area by Saturday evening.

It was a weekend where people helped people.

In a Facebook post, Trinity Bay North Mayor Shelly Blackmore said, “It is good to see neighbour helping neighbour. Thank you for checking on those who are living alone, shovelling snow to help them out, and making sure they can get through this storm.”

More snow is expected to hit the area again later today and into Monday, Jan. 20.

Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for the area, with up to 15-20 cm of snow forecast for the area
