Barbara De Land speaks with Bruce Mactavish, a well-known and much appreciated St. John's birder who thinks nothing of getting up before dawn to drive hours, no matter the weather, to stand in freezing cold and wind in hopes of seeing a special bird. The depth of his knowledge and experience can be enjoyed in his Winging It column bi-weekly Saturdays in The Telegram. Tune in at VOWR radio AM 800, online at VOWR.org or on cable radio Rogers 945 and Bell Aliant 756.
Religion
5 p.m.
Latin Mass
When we are enveloped in silence we often hear the most. Through the reverend silence of the Latin mass we hear the communing with The Almighty. We hear the one voice off all the angels chanting “Holy, Holy, Holy” and we add our own. In the loudness of our high-tech world, it is nice to take a break and worship through the Latin mass as our previous generations and ancestors did. If you would like to hear in the silence, the Latin mass is offered at 5 p.m. Sundays at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Smithville Crescent. Latin-English translation booklets provided.
