BONAVISTA, N.L. — After an initiative that saw individuals rack up kilometres equivalent to walking across Canada, the Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation is launching a new Sea to Sea to Sea Walk.

The new goal is to match the distance from Atlantic to Pacific to Arctic oceans in Canada.

It's a challenge from retired pathologist and former Bonavista resident Dr. Hilda Tremblett, for whom Tip-A-Vista named the wellness centre in the community.

The period for the walk goes from May 25 to Sept. 7, coinciding with Relay for Life at Cabot Stadium.

Last year, the challenge was to walk the distance of Newfoundland but the community exceeded this by collectively walking the distance of the country.

Dr. Tremblett says they should build on what Tip-A-Vista is doing for healthy people and healthy communities. Plans are already underway to make healthy additions for the 2020 challenge.

The official launch of this year’s Sea to Sea to Sea Walk will be June 11, at 2 p.m. from Cape Bonavista. The date is also Dr. Tremblett’s 91st birthday.

Tremblett will be on hand to lead the walk with local resident 23-year-old Joshua Chard, who walked 550 kilometres in last year’s challenge. Already, 70 people have signed up to participate in the walk this summer.

Even pets are included in the kilometres recorded, as they are part of the family as well.

There will be t-shirts for participants and a sign to mark the progress. The walk will conclude with refreshments at the Lions Club.
