Traffic stops continue to result in vehicle seizures and charges in Bay St. George area

Three vehicles were seized and the drivers charged this past weekend during traffic stops by the Bay St. George Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

On May 9, an ATV driver was charged with impaired driving after police observed the man driving on the roadway in Piccadilly.

When stopped at 12:30 a.m., police said the man showed signs of impairment and failed the roadside sobriety test. Breath samples provided by the Piccadilly man at the detachment were more than the legal limited. The ATV was seized and impounded and the man will appear in court at a later date.

At 11 a.m. on May 10, RCMP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Main Street in Barachois Brook. The driver, a 28-year-old Barachois Brook man, was driving without insurance and without registration. The vehicle was seized and impounded and tickets were issued.

The man was also found to have three outstanding warrants of arrest for impaired driving and failing to appear in court. He was arrested and released to appear in court at a later date.

On May 10, police observed a vehicle swerving on Queen Street in Stephenville at 11:55 p.m. Police attempted at a traffic stop, but the driver failed to comply.

When the vehicle eventually stopped, a 33-year-old man from Mattis Point exited from the passenger side and fled the scene on foot. The man was located and ticketed for having open liquor in the vehicle.

The driver, a 30-year-old Kippens woman, was arrested for flight from police and ticketed for various traffic infractions, including driving without due care and attention, not having registration or insurance and failing to stop at a stop sign. She was also ticketed under the Cannabis Control Act for possessing more than 30 grams of dried cannabis in the vehicle.

The vehicle was seized and impounded and the woman was released from custody to appear in court at a later date.
