BAY ROBERTS, N.L. — On Monday, May 6, the WE Volunteer Now Speaking Tour made an official stop at Amalgamated Academy.
With the mandate to provide young people with the resources they need to develop tangible leadership skills, identify issues affecting their communities, and create plans to take action, keynote speakers, Stuart Jansen, who was born in Dubai and grew up in Ontario, and Courtney Abbott, who grew up in New Zealand, quickly captured the interest of the approximately 50 students involved.
Students discovered how volunteering can be a vital tool for creating change in the community and they learned to identify areas through which they can take action as volunteers. During the three-hour workshop that followed, approximately 30 students were actively engaged in various team-building games, all while laughing and learning valuable skills to become the leaders of change in their own right.
Special thanks to the WE Organization for providing this wonderful opportunity to Amalgamated Academy.
