CORNER BROOK, N.L. — Western Health has opened appointment-based flu assessment and treatment clinics at the Corner Brook Civic Centre Studio and at the Bay St. George Medical Clinic in Stephenville.

In a media release, the heath authority said these clinics have been established to divert people with flu or respiratory symptoms from family practice offices and emergency departments.

Individuals will be referred to these clinics through 811, family doctors’ offices, community health or community support services.

The health authority set up COVID-19 testing sites in Stephenville and Corner Brook last week and continues to offer in-home testing in communities throughout the region.

The public is asked not to go to the testing sites or the flu assessment and treatment clinics unless they have been given an appointment.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or who have come in contact with someone who has fever, cough or difficulty breathing, should complete the online self-assessment at www.811healthline.ca before calling the NL Health Line 811. Based on advice from 811, individuals who need further follow up will be instructed to contact public health who will then determine if testing is required.
