DEER LAKE — A Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by WestJet safely landed at the Deer Lake Airport on Wednesday afternoon after declaring an emergency while on approach to the airport.

In a news release issued after the incident, the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority said it activated its emergency co-ordination centre in response to a request for aircraft rescue and firefighting services early in the afternoon.

The highly skilled and trained rescue and firefighting crews staged ready to respond ahead of the aircraft landing on Runway 25 but the plane landed without incident at 1:37 p.m. and their services were not required.
