CARBONEAR, N.L. — Two women were arrested for possession of cocaine while parked in a car at the Salvation Army Church in Carbonear.

Harbour Grace RCMP received a call on Feb. 23 at about 6:30 a.m. of a suspicious vehicle parked at the church with the engine running.

When police arrived, they found the car with two women inside and the driver, a 27-year-old originally from Victoria, was suspected to be impaired by a drug and was arrested.

RCMP said officers located cocaine within the vehicle and the other woman, a 37-year-old from Carbonear, was also taken into custody and both occupants now face a charge of possession of cocaine.

The driver was tested to see if she was impaired by drugs RCMP said they are waiting for the results of the testing to determine if she will be charged with drug-impaired driving.

The two women were released from custody and are scheduled to attend court in April.
