NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
Fire swept through a house on Elizabeth Avenue in Labrador City on Sept. 5.
Labrador City Fire Chief Joe Power told The Aurora the call came in close to 10 p.m.. By the time the fire department arrived the fire was already quite substantial.
“Firefighters battled the fire for about three and a half hours,” he explained. “It was challenging and the fire was quite intense.”
Power said the fire department returned to the scene the next morning just after 7 a.m. when the flames broke out again.
The occupants of the house were able to escape without injury. The investigation is now in the hands of the RNC. No estimate of damage was available.
Power did tell The Aurora that this is the first house fire of this kind since 2016. “House fires aren’t that common, especially those with such substantial damage,” he said.
Power also says education and prevention are likely reasons for those numbers to be low.
