A 68-year-old man from Mt. Carmel was arrested and is facing impaired driving charges following a stop by RCMP near Cochrane Pond on Tuesday.
At about 3:30 p.m., The Holyrood detachment was alerted that there may an impaired driver on the Trans-Canada Highway in their district. Officers located the vehicle and did a routine traffic stop which resulted in the charges.
In addition to impaired operation of a motor vehicle, the man was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.
He was released and will appear in court in St. John’s in April.
The Holyrood RCMP would like to remind the public of the dangers of impaired operation of a vehicle and urges motorists to call 911 should they suspect someone is driving while impaired. Providing a description of the vehicle and driver, a licence plate number and direction of travel can assist police in locating the vehicle and getting the impaired driver off the road.
The Bay St. George RCMP are seeking the public’s help in finding the person or persons who stole a pair of snowmobiles in the region on Feb. 25 and 26.
On Feb. 25, at approximately 10 a.m., Bay St. George RCMP were notified a long-track Bravo snowmobile had been stolen from a shed on Main Road, West Bay.
The following day (Feb. 26), at approximately 10 a.m., Bay St. George RCMP received a report of the theft of a short-track Bravo snowmobile from a residential property on Main Road, Campbell's Creek.
The investigation into these thefts is ongoing.
