The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) issued a public warning late Friday afternoon following the theft of a gym bag containing prescription fentanyl patches.

The RNC received the report Friday, but the theft occurred the previous Friday, Jan. 19.

The individual who made the report told police their gym bag was stolen from a parked vehicle on Porters Road in Conception Bay South, and there were several prescription fentanyl patches inside the bag.

The fentanyl is clearly labelled and should not be used without the direction of a medical practitioner. The RNC is warning anyone who might come into possession of such a drug that its use could cause serious illness or death if used improperly.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
